The sound of this recording comes from familiar tools, the violimo and viola leader, Jason Kao Hwang and the voices of artists who recite poems, including the baritone Thomas Buckner. There are two pieces presented by Hwang Lifelines and Words of Our Own with two different groups. The voice of Deanna Relya illuminates the first set to PiotrMichalowski sopranino sax and bass clarinet. They play with the group Edge Hwang, Bo Taylor Hynum cornet and flugelhorn, Andrew Dury on drums and Ken Filiano on bass. Another piece over to Buckener are Joe McPhee on tenor sax and trumpet pocket, William Parker on bass, Sang Won Park at kayagum (Korean string instrument). Here is a short registration at the beginning of the Charles Gayle Trio Live at the Knitting Factory in New York with Vattel Cherry and Marc Edwards of July `92. The voices, the poems of contemporary poets and not, tell the life in the urban jungle that is New York, is one thing in mind in liner notes written by Hwang ("Each of the poems I chose had a personal resonance") and Yuko Otomo ("There are voices That speak our thoughts, emotions and needs"). It is a music full of emotions, which transcend those that are the traditional techniques, what matters here is improvisation, the inspiration of the moment, exercised collectively. The two songs are developed otherwise, for the diversity of formations and equipment, but the spirit that animates them is the same. The poems are contained in the booklet, so that you can read them in their strength, as well as listen. There is so much energy and passion to spread the album with solos of all participants, including important names of the vanguard, a Joe McPhee is rewriting with all others. And also celebrated poets of course, the late Lester Afflick , an integral part of this project, whose texts collected in the posthumous I Dream About You Baby are here declaimed. Il suono di quest´incisione proviene da strumenti noti, il violimo e la viola del leader, Jason Kao Hwang e le voci di artisti che recitano poesie, fra i quali il baritono Thomas Buckner. Sono due i brani presentati da Hwang Lifelines e Words of Our Own con due gruppi diversi. La voce di Deanna Relya illumina il primo insieme a PiotrMichalowski al sax sopranino ed al clarinetto basso. Suonano con il gruppo Edge di Hwang, Taylor Bo Hynum alla cornetta ed al flicorno, Andrew Dury alla batteria e Ken Filiano al contrabbasso. Nell´altro brano oltre a Buckener ci sono Joe McPhee al sax tenore ed alla tromba tascabile, William Parker al contrabbasso, Sang Won Park al kayagum (strumento a corde coreano). C´è qui all´inizio una breve registrazione de l trio di Charles Gayle live alla Knitting factory di New York con Vattel Cherry e Marc Edwards del luglio del `92. Le voci, le poesie di poeti contemporanei e non, raccontano la vita in quella giungla urbana che è New York, è una cosa ben presente nelle liner notes scritte da Hwang (“Each of the poems I chose had a personal resonance”) e Yuko Otomo (“There are voices that speak our thoughts, emotions and needs”). È una musica ricca di emozioni, in cui si trascendono quelle che sono le tecniche tradizionali, qui quel che conta è l´improvvisazione, l´ispirazione del momento, esercitata collettivamente. I due brani si sviluppano diversamente, anche per la diversità delle formazioni e delle strumentazioni, ma lo spirito che le anima è lo stesso. Le poesie sono contenute nel booklet, cosí che si può leggerle nella loro forza, oltre che ascoltarle. C´è tanta energia e passione sparsa per l´album con assoli di tutti i partecipanti, fra cui nomi importanti dell´avanguardia, un Joe McPhee in gran spolvero insieme a tutti gli altri.Si celebrano anche i poeti ovviamente, il compianto Lester Afflick, parte integrante di questo progetto, i cui testi raccolti nel postumo I Dream About You Baby vengono qui declamati. Si richiede un ascolto attento per questi suoni insoliti, l´energia che traspare dalle corde del leader e dei suoi sidemen è qualcosa di insolito ma anche di affascinante.
